Well, in this time and age, RGB lighting has become the new bling in PC hardware. Even more so if you look at the mechanical keyboard line-up. Few models come out without having RGB features. There were some specific models that had a single color backlit feature. But that was a long time ago.
If we’re to consider the best of the best, be it full-length RGB keyboards or TKL keyboards even, they all come with an array of RGB features. If you’re new to this, the common question would be, “What’s the deal with RGB?” And “How would it benefit me?”
I’ll be explaining all that step by step. Just be patient and listen to what I have to say.

Defining Red Green and Blue
Before getting into what an RGB keyboard is, let’s talk about the term “RGB” first. It basically stands for red, green, and blue. So, what’s the deal? Is that it? “No.” The whole RGB terminology means that the three hues can be mixed to create a multitude of different colors.
Combining these three colors is the primary process of creating vivid images on TVs, Phone screens, monitors, and so on. The RGB color model is also known as the “Additive’ model. Simply put, putting 100% of each light creates a white light. And 0% generates no light at all. AKA black color.
This is different from the CMYK or cyan, yellow, magenta, and black color pallet method that’s used to create printed photos and images. This method, on the contrary, is known as the “Subtractive” method. 100% here means black, and 0% results in white.
The next question that might come to your mind is, what’s with the 16.8 million color limitation? Well, RGB means three colors. Each number is encoded by a standard of 1 byte. A single byte technically has the range of 0 to 255. Meaning 256 numbers in total.
So, in the end, three numbers which van have three individual possible numbers then the total possibilities are 2563 or 16.8 million. That’s the furthest you can reach with any RGB lighting system.

I’m gonna list a couple of features that are specific to RGB keyboards. They should be self-explanatory. So, here goes!

The Perks of Having an RGB Keyboard
Even if you have the best RGB keyboard, the benefits of having one can be categorized in several segments. Let’s divide the usefulness of an RGB keyboard from a user’s perspective. For gamers and basic home/ office users.
RGB Keyboards for Gamers
Gaming as it is now can be pretty demanding, especially on the competitive scene. To be honest, at this point, there’re no alternatives to RGB mechanical keyboards for most E-Sports. Why so? Let’s talk about it.
-
The Feeling
In modern RGB keyboards, you’ll see something very common. The aesthetic design, weight, and user experience overall go leagues ahead of a basic keyboard. They just don’t feel the same.
When you place your hands on the keys, and your hands get the comfortable feeling of the wrist rest, you get into the zone in an instant. Your PC feels more like your battle station and not some mere toy. This feeling won’t ever be complete without an RGB keyboard that you feel comfortable with.
-
The Feedback
If you’ve been on the hunt for the best RGB keyboards, you probably have a good idea by now about several key switches. There are a lot of variants. Starting from the German crafted Cherry MX Switches to the keys of something totally different like the Razer Huntsman V2, each has its own signature.
These RGB keyboards not only offer immersive lighting, but they offer an immersive experience in general. The gaming experience ultimately comes down to what you feel at your fingertips. RGB keyboards excel in the whole feedback scenario.
Whether you like tactile feedback, clicky sounds, or a fast-linear response is totally up to you to decide.
-
The Aesthetic Edge
Gamers have always liked shiny stuff. And RGB keyboards are like the jewels to every gamer’s crown. Just put something like a Corsair K100 RGB on your desk and see how the whole image of the environment changes.
It’s not always about looks; a good RGB keyboard also speaks a lot about the gamer’s taste in hardware. So, it’s perfectly fine to be picky about them.
RGB Keyboards for Office/Home Use
Not all of us are gamers. So, are RGB keyboards any good for home and office usage? You bet they are! Let me point out how they outshine the rest in utility as well.
-
The Signature
The key colors you set for your keyboard can speak tons about the theme of your office and the personality of your home. I mean, hey, you can even set the accurate key backlit or a mixture of colors to fit the logo identity of your company. Change it seasonally to adjust the environment of your home.
You’ve got loads of options.

Night Time Work
As I’ve said before, RGB keyboards are a great help when you have to work in dark situations. If you have to keep on typing at night, you can just adjust the brightness of the lights on your keyboard and keep on working. Why take the flare of indoor lights when you can go with something warm?
-
Avoiding Typos
There are many situations where you aren’t sure whether you pressed a key or not. There are some RGB keyboards with Cherry MX blues or similar switches that not only offer a tactile feedback, but a click too. You’ll be surer of your keypresses that’ll result in better work efficiency.
The Last Keypress
After all that I’ve explained so far, you’ve probably got a pretty good idea about the whole RGB keyboard deal. Even when you want to advise someone about what keyboard to get or buy one for yourself, I’m pretty darn sure all this info will come in handy.
RGB keyboards are useful for computer users in general. It’s a misconception that it’s only for gamers. The whole computing experience changes dramatically with the addition of an RGB keyboard.
I hope I could help you out with my write-up. My work would be 100% worth it if you feel confident about what you know about RGB keyboards at this point. But if you want to know about RGB keycaps, that’s a whole different story.
You’ve probably heard RGB keyboards. These stand out from the rest for a reason. Let’s have a detailed discussion about the benefits that they offer in general.
